CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

To facilitate economic, environmental and social development, we work with local communities to open up new livelihoods, empower women economically, and create access to education. We strongly believe that education is the single largest tool for socio-economic change in the life of the individual, family, and the country. Our plants are located in geographically remote areas, where access to quality education was a significant issue. We thus took an active role in creating education infrastructure in these areas by building schools with a social purpose.

The Founder of our company, Padma Bhushan late Shri Karamshi Jethabhai Somaiya, also founded The K. J. Somaiya Trust and The Somaiya Trust. He firmly believed in giving back to society, and worked tirelessly to create a more equal and just society. He then founded Somaiya Vidyavihar, The K. J. Somaiya Medical Trust, and The Girivanvasi Education Trust and Pragati Mandal, comprising over 30 different educational institutions and two hospitals, extending from elementary level to Ph. D, rural to urban, vocational to professional, and covering diverse areas including medicine, engineering, the arts and sciences, religion, vocational studies, education, languages, tribal development, and many other fields.

The Somaiya family continues in the tradition of our founder. These institutions were led by Dr. S. K. Somaiya, and now by our current Chairman and Managing Director, Samir Somaiya. Currently, there are over 38,000 students studying under these institutions.
